Referring to my Despatch No. 107 of the 2nd. instant in which I informed you of the grant of leave of absence
to lir. G. H. Wakeman, Land Officer, I have the honour to state
that owing to a temporary shortage of administrative officers it
has been found necessary to call upon Mr. P. Jacks to perform the duties of Land Officer in addition to his own duties as Assistant
Land Officer.

If Colonial Regulation 77 is strictly adhered to Mr. Jacks will during the half-pay leave of Mr. Wakeman draw half initial pay of Assistant Land Officer.

His salary is at present £500. Therefore for a year's double duty which will involve daily overtime work and work on Sundays and holidays he will receive additional remuneration at the rate of
£90 per annum for the period of half-pay leave while he would be entitled by the Regulation to receive the same amount if he did the single duty of Land Officer.

I may mention that the dollar salary of the
Land Officer is 85,400 or the equivalent in sterling of £810. The
sterling salary is £600 to £780.
